TFC #48: Windows Clipboard History

Increase your productivity with the "hidden" Clipboard History feature

This week, I want to talk write a quick article about the Windows Clipboard History feature.

I’m sure at least half of you have already found this and use it all the time, but I’m always amazed at how many people don’t know it is available when I am remoted into their computer.

I always turn it on for them if they are not using it. 🤣

So what is Clipboard History.

It was actually released on October 2018 for Windows 10.

Here is a screenshot of how it looks.

I use Clipboard History all the time when I am writing a Cabinet Vision UCS or writing a custom report for Cabinet Vision.

It allows me copy multiple parameters or sections of text and then go paste all of them on my new page without switching back and forth between apps.

Another great reason to use it is when you forget a parameter or formula that you had used, you can open your Clipboard History and see the last 25 things you copied to your clipboard.

Super handy.

How To Enable and Use Clipboard History

1. Enable Clipboard History:

Press Windows logo key + V to turn on clipboard history for the first time.

Clipboard history gets cleared each time you restart your PC, except for the items you’ve pinned.

2. Access Clipboard History:

Press Windows logo key + V to open the clipboard history.

Click any item to paste it into the current program.

3. Clear Individual Items:

To remove a specific item from the clipboard history, follow these steps:

Press Windows logo key + V.

Next to the item, select See more (…) and then choose Delete.

4. Sync Clipboard Items Across Devices: (optional)

To sync clipboard items across devices, ensure the sync feature is on.

Go to Start > Settings > System > Clipboard.

Set the Sync across devices toggle to On.

Select Automatically sync text that I copy.

Use the same login information on all your devices.

Remember that your clipboard history is limited to 25 entries, and older items (unless pinned) are automatically removed to make room for new ones. So go ahead, explore clipboard history, and make your copy-paste tasks more efficient! 📄✂️
